A student and four faculty members were recognized for their reporting during the Connecticut Society of Professional Journalists Excellence in Journalism Awards Dinner May 24.
The 2017 Excellence in Journalism contest highlights the best in Connecticut reporting for the 2017 year. College students compete in the 2017-18 contest.
Matt Gad, a senior Journalism major, received second place in the College Contest Sports News category, for his article “Former all-American Walsh returns to compete,” published in the Southern News.
The faculty who received awards included:

Also present at the dinner were Jerry Dunklee, professor of Journalism, who is the Hall of Fame chair for CTSPJ and a past president; Cindy Simoneau, Journalism Department chair and a CTSPJ past president; Liz Glagowski, adjunct instructor and member of the CTSPJ board of directors; and Jim Simon, adjunct instructor.
Glagowski was elected the CTSPJ board treasurer for 2018-19.
Gil, a CTSPJ past president, completed her final term on the board this year, after serving 10 consecutive years.
