In January 2024, Southern’s Journalism Department helped launch the Connecticut Student Journalism Collaborative along with faculty from Central Connecticut State University, University of Connecticut and Connecticut State Community College – Manchester, and media partners at Connecticut Public, CT Mirror and WSHU Public Radio. Since then, more universities and media partners have joined.
The group publishes CT Community News, a collection of reporting by students at participating colleges and universities.
The initiative has two big goals: Provide coverage of a wide range of under-reported stories and issues that matter to Nutmeggers, and showcase the work of the state’s best emerging journalists.
Media partners in the collaborative can republish student work, to give it more reach to Connecticut audiences.
Below is a sampling of published work by SCSU Journalism students.
